I'm starting to wonder if these new "to be continued"/Part 1 posts on DDDT are going to be some sort of mean joke, in which there is no Part 2, or finish to them and the reader is just left hanging. Forever.

Squew, I am laughing so hard about that. All these years I hoped you wouldn't remember that. For the record I was 5 or 6, not 9. I didn't remember the soda fountain part but do distinctly remember my mom dropping me off and me crying about it. I remember saying I didn't like something about your face (you're very handsome, so I can't imagine what the problem was), and then crying myself to sleep on the couch in front of the huge aquarium. I assume I was I was scared to leave my governess and pony and venture into the dark unknown that was the west side of Compton Bench.

I agree that this post was worthwhile if all it did is remind us all about Jake Pearson's line.

Kook, I'm with you about work social events. Pretty sad stuff, actually.

I've never met or even seen Snake, but I know the story well. I can't wait for part II because part I of your day seems pretty crappy to me.

I'm on the edge of my seat!

One summer I worked for a construction company based in North Salt Lake. There was a company party at Cherry Hill. Everybody got a prize (I got a pretty sweet Wenger tent), which was the owner's way of apologizing to everyone for no wage increases. Yeah, it was awkward.

Skew, that line from the canon of Jake Pearson is one of the all time greats. I had completely forgotten it. I thank you for bringing it back into my life.

Kook, I completely agree that work hangouts are irredeemably weird. There's just no way to create a comfortable social scenario out of people that work together. The problem is almost always complicated by alcohol, which is used to loosen people up, but inevitably introduces more awkwardness than there had been before. In other words, to someone hoping to fit in and participate in these things, they can be very uncomfortable. To someone who doesn't mind being a detached observer enjoying the show, they are awesome.

I haven't heard this story and I'm very interested. I feel the same way sometimes about work friends. They say that the SLC pilot group is the least friendly and I wonder if you've discovered the reason.

Chris, as a matter of fact the best day of you life was the day when you were nine and you came to my house and gorged your self on our soda fountain machine and then fell asleep for the rest of the play date in front of our peaceful aquarium. I'm sure Oliver's birth was a really great day, but number 1? I don't think so, maybe a close third behind the day Snake Pierson threw a pear through the Marsha Peterson's window. "Marsha, it was a mistake the second it left my hand."

Seriously becoming a new dad was the best day of my life, and by far the absolute worst day of my life, all in one.

That wasn't the 'best day' part. It was the guy's speech about layoffs.
